
foreign media news on october 14: data released by the peruvian ministry of energy and mines on friday showed that peruvian copper production in august was 223,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 7.5%.
the increase in production in august was attributed to good production performance at freeport-mcmoran and cerro verde, the ministry statement said.
however, august’s output was lower than july’s. the output in july was 230,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of nearly 18%
from january to august this year, peruvian copper output was 1.77 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 18%.
copper production suffered early this year as large-scale protests shut n operations at some mines.
peru doubled n on its efforts to increase output, with output expected to reach 2.8 million tonnes this year, after a report said congo could overtake peru as the second-largest copper producer in the coming years.
