canadian miner barrick gold corporation reported that it produced 1.01 million ounces of gold in the second quarter, up 6.1% from the previous quarter, as production increased at its carlin gold mine in nevada after maintenance work was completed, as well as improved grades at the kibali gold mine in the democratic republic of the congo and the veladero gold mine in argentina.
copper production in the second quarter was 107 million pounds, up 22% from the previous quarter. the increase in production was mainly due to higher production at the lumwana mine, a large copper mine in northwestern zambia.
